To be environmentally friendly, consider some of these suggestions of small ways to change your everyday habits that go beyond your diet.

  • Sign petitions! This is an easy step that can make a big impact
  • Vote for environmental candidates in government to make lasting changes
  • Use a reusable water-bottle
  • Bring your own reusable shopping bags
  • Cut down on paper junk mail, there are a lot of websites and services that help you get off mailing lists
  • Replace plastic lighters with matches
  • Replace plastic straws with metal or glass that you can bring to restaurants
  • Buy clothing from second hand stores to reduce shipping and packaging waste
  • Consume less meat and dairy
  • Buy local produce, this reduces pollution that is associated in transportation
  • Take showers instead of baths to avoid using too much water, this will also save your water bill
  • Use cold water for laundry
  • Go to car washes, this is more water and environmentally efficient that washing by hand
  • Opt for electronic bank statements and online bills
  • Turn off your computer overnight
